EXTRACT()
EXTRACT() is a SQL function in the Date/Time Functions category. Extracts a specific part (YEAR, MONTH, DAY, HOUR, etc.) from a date. The syntax is EXTRACT(unit FROM date). It accepts unit — YEAR, MONTH, DAY, HOUR, etc.. It returns integer part. A typical example: SELECT EXTRACT(YEAR FROM order_date) FROM orders; SELECT EXTRACT(MONTH FROM hire_date) FROM employees; A close relative is NOW(), which returns the current date and time as a timestamp.
